Arrival:
Our trip to Cape Town was great, great connections, good time to travel. We left early in the morning and arrived In London around 7:30pm. 1 1/2 hour layover and off to Johannesburg- just over 10 hours, but all night time allowing us to get some sleep. Then a short hop to Cape Town and, voila, we're here. Rick and Harriet arrived last night, so when we arrived, they were out hiking Table Mountain with our guide, Clive.
We checked into our hotel, the Victoria and Albert, which is located right on the wharf. Our room has a nice view of the harbor and Table Mountain.
We haven't yet
figured it out, but there is a enormous (4-5 stories high) bright red Lego
statue adjacent to our hotel. There
is a ferris wheel on the other side of the hotel part of the Victoria Mall.
Finally met up with Rick and Harriet for dinner. Had a fantastic and relatively
inexpensive dinner, right at the wharf in a seafood restaurant called
Servuga. We all had a local Cape
Town fish, "klipfish" on our waiter's recommendation and we were not
disappointed. After dinner, we
strolled around the waterfront. enjoying the lights of the city across the
water . After Harriet informed us
that she'd never been on a Ferris wheel, we coaxed her on this one that went
high above the city. The ride was uneventful, no klipfish on the floor. After enough excitement for one day, we
leisurely headed back toward the hotel for a good night's rest. Suzie and Rich should be arriving any time now, though after i'm
reading the inside of my eyelids, and we have to be up early for kayaking with
the local penguins.
